KAFS Field Trips Diary


September 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, Roman Provence

A trip without equal! We will be based in Arles. The marvellous Imperial remains of Arles where the British usurper Constantine 3rd and the British Legions met there end. We will visit the amphitheatre, theatre, Imperial baths, circus and museum. We will lunch in the cafe made famous by Van Gogh.
We will visit the amazing aquaduct of Pont du Gard and follow its winding route through the mountains. We will visit Nimes with its splendid still-standing Roman temples. Travel can be by air or rail, We will provide the coach and entrance fees and guide. The trip costs £150 (travel, accomodation and food not included).


October 26th to 28th Pompeii, Herculaneum, and the Bay of Naples

This trip is for the cognoscenti who have been before but want to spend more time at Pompeii and Herculaneum. 
Thursday: Flight to Naples, transfer to the hotel.
Friday: Naples archaeological museum and the Roman villas at Stabiae.
Saturday: A full day in Pompeii including the Villa of the Mysteries.
Sunday: Herculaneum, Villa at Oplontis, museum and farm at Boscoreale.
Flights, all food and hotel not included, guiding with Dr Paul Wilkinson. Cost: £150 per person which will include local transport and entrance fees but not travel there or accomodation or food.



December 1st to 6th, Winter trip to Roman Germany


A two-centre trip to the heart of Roman Germanica, the hard-won frontier of the Empire. Who can forget the opening scene of the film Gladiator, set in the Teutoburg forest? This trip will coincide with the Christmas markets.

Saturday: Flight to Cologne, and tour the Roman sites and the Archaeological Museum.
Sunday: A day at the reconstructed Roman town and Imperial Baths of Xanten.
Monday: Roman and Charlemagne’s Aachen, the museum at Frankenberg Castle.
Tuesday: Leave for Trier, via Saalburg Roman fort at the very edge of the Roman Empire, and the Roman villa at Bad Kreuzanach.
Wednesday: A day in Trier, the Roman Basilica, once Constantine’s throne room, Porta Nigra, baths and amphitheatre.
Thursday: Otrang Roman villa then return along the River Moselle to Cologne and flight home.

Flights, all food and hotels by 'In-Time'  and guiding by Dr Paul Wilkinson included in the price of: 

£1145 per person (single £1,198).
